Senior Care Show

The great thing about today’s technology is that it makes easy for everyone to share and get new information anytime they want and wherever they are. It is especially the case with the proliferation of blogs and iPods.

While the connection between the two may not be obvious at first, these two landmarks of today’s technology show how easy it is to share and gather information.

Senior citizens can take advantage of the new technology as well. There are online shows and blogs that talk about senior care. But getting the latest news about this topic, takes a little bit of technological know-how. While it may look hard at first, all one needs are the proper tools and instructions and everything will be a breeze.

If you’re a senior citizen and wish to subscribe to online shows that deal with topics that concern you the most, here are some things that you should know and have.

1. RSS – RSS stands for really simple syndication. This is used to make it easy for everyone to subscribe to a blog or a podcast. All you need to do is get an RSS reader (Mozilla Thunderbird is a good example) for your computer and click on the RSS button (usually an orange box with either ‘RSS’ written on it). Most of the process is automatic so you do not need to worry about them anymore.

The good thing about RSS is that it brings fresh content to you immediately. You no longer need to go to the website just to check if there is any new content uploaded.

2. Podcast – this is the term used for online shows that you can subscribe to. They are usually in audio format, but there are videos too. Think of them as radio or television shows that you can subscribe to and watch anytime you like. To subscribe to a podcast, you need an RSS reader as mentioned above.

3. Blog – originally used by many as online personal journals, it has since been used by journalists and experts alike to share their thoughts and important information to a wide audience. Like podcasts, you can subscribe to a blog using your RSS reader. Doing so saves you a lot of time instead of hopping from one blog to another just to check for updates.
