Assisted Senior Living Facility

Today, as many as 1 million Americans live in different assisted living facilities throughout the country. Assisted living facilities are those that provide people, mostly senior citizens, with the basic care that they need for everyday living.

These facilities are different from nursing homes because the residents of the former do not require constant medical health care as much as those in nursing homes would. Residents of assisted living facilities are those that are still relatively healthy. However, they usually need help in some of their daily activities and want to maintain their sense of independence and privacy.

Typical services that residents of assisted living facilities receive include bathing, eating, grooming and dressing. Apart from those and other basic daily activities, they do on their own.

These facilities usually work this way: a person applies to be a resident of the facility. Once the applicant is accepted, a plan for living in the facility is made for him or her. The plan takes into consideration the type of services that the resident will need throughout his or her stay. It is then constantly updated as the needs of the resident change.

The size of each facility varies greatly depending on the institution that provides it. Smaller facilities usually are in small residential houses. Facilities this small typically houses around three residents. Meanwhile, larger facilities can be in the form of apartment-type buildings. Residents are usually housed in one of the apartment units.

Just like the size, the cost of living in this kind of facility varies a lot. Some can go as low as $800 a month while high-end ones can go as much as $4000. Usually the case is that the more expensive the facility, the better are the services that it provides and the amenities that it has. But it isn’t always true so those that wish to move to an assisted living facility should shop around first to get a good deal.

In sum, assisted living facilities are for those who need help with their daily activities but wish to maintain their independence. And as far as costs go, they vary depending on the facility and the types of services it provides.
